Community Car Service
Our Community Car Service provides transport for older and vulnerable people. These may be people who struggle to leave their homes due to; location, having mobility issues, not having family or friends nearby and lack of access to public transport.
What our service does
We have a dedicated service co-ordinator who organises our volunteer car drivers. They provide help with people attending medical appointments to places such as Leeds General Infirmary, St James's University Hospital, Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, Acre mills, we can sometimes also offer services to places further away such as Royal Hallamshire Hospital.
Helping residents throughout Calderdale to also attend social events, hairdresser appointments, shopping and visiting friends, helping them overcome isolation and loneliness.
What people say about the service
“I relied on them so heavily last year... lovely drivers, affordable transport costs, door to door so no walking was involved - what a wonderful service.”
“Our mum...relied upon your service to attend Verd de Gris Dementia Group at Hebden Bridge Town Hall, without which she would not have been able to take part in the many social and creative activities they provided.”
Charges
Our volunteers are checked for their suitability and use their own vehicles to provide the service. To help cover their costs there is a £2.50 minimum charge per trip and a 50p/mile charge after 5 miles.
